‘Long-cherished ambitions are elusive things’.
Reading Antarctic Isle, Niall Rankin’s words instantly reminded me of my feelings before my first visit. Growing up I heard stories from my father, and from family and friends, of a distant snow-capped island similar to home, but more dramatic and untamed. Watching countless documentaries and seeing images of battling Elephant Seals, courting Albatross and beaches full to burst with King Penguins only fuelled my imagination further.
When I was given the opportunity to live there, it was a chance to fulfil these childhood dreams. It did not disappoint.
